Mission/Vision Statement:

The Vision:
DOOR invites our Discover, Discern and Dwell participants to “See the Face of God in the City.”

The Hope:
That by experiencing God’s love and shalom in ever-expanding new ways we can share and demonstrate God’s alternatives to the evils of racism, poverty and violence that tear down our communities and lives.

Our Faith Perspective:
Recognizing the various faith traditions from which we come, this network commits to the following faith statement:
We consider Jesus Christ our model of living for God and the answer to human need, hostility, and violence; God commands us: to respect life, love all people (even our enemies), reconcile broken relationships, and pursue justice. Our bond with other followers of Jesus transcends all racial, social, economic and national barriers. We view the Bible as our guide for faith and life.

Doctrinal Statement:

Core Values:
➢We believe, as followers of Jesus, that all people are created in the image of God.
➢We believe in respect for all peoples in all communities.
➢We seek peace and justice; simple and abundant living; service as a lifestyle in a community setting through partnerships and education, reflecting diversity.
Philosophy of Ministry:
1. Faith – we see our world through the eyes of Jesus and the gospel story.
• DOOR roots itself in the story of scripture and Christian faith. In doing so, we see our urban world through the eyes of Jesus and the gospel story. We believe that God is alive and working in the City awaiting us to witness the gifts of the city. As the city is made up of communities, we believe that the community of believers is a place of strength and of God’s healing Spirit.
2. Mutuality & Respect- We seek to find and demonstrate ways to both give and receive.
•We will seek to find ways for board members, staff, participants and community members to connect at a human-to-human level.
•We believe that interaction of different peoples and communities is important.
•Respect of all cultures and all people is necessary when working from a mutuality perspective.
•We are called to serve one another in love.
3.Local Leadership - We believe that mutuality, respect and accountability best happens when local people assume program ownership.
•We commit to year-round full-time City Directors in each city under the direction of a local board.
•Partnerships are another way of allowing urban communities to connect and show respect to each other’s service. DOOR seeks to work on partnerships locally as to have mutual relationships in our communities. We seek to gain a better understanding of and from local leaders and pastors as well as a blessing of DOOR’s work.
4.Community – We are called to interdependence.
•We commit to living in mutual community with participants and our neighbors.
•We see community as not only those whom we physically live and work with but also those who share the cities we live with.
•We value the accountability which we find with our denominational partners, who provide a wealth of knowledge and wisdom.
5.Stewardship – We acknowledge that all resources are God’s.
•We seek to be respectful of the resources within the communities where we are located.
•We seek to minimize our footprint on the natural resources we all use so that all may live abundantly.
•We understand that Sabbath is a stewardship issue and we must learn what we each need in order to replenish ourselves.
6.Diversity – We believe that all people are created in the image of God.
•We are committed to relationships with people outside our own cultures, ethnicity, and churches.
•With our understanding of respect and partnerships, we continue to hold a commitment to increasing diversity within our programs.
•We will seek to develop a board, staff and participant base that reflects the diversity of the Body of Christ (e.g. age, ethnicity, national origin, theology, gender, socio-economic level, and ability.)
•We commit to be an anti-racist program.
